State of the Shopping Address {Vol 9}: Back to School

So, it it time for another State of the Shopping address here at NewDayNewDeals.com.  I like to write these up whenever their is a shift in the seasons/shopping.   I hope that these help keep you guys up to date on how boutique shopping cycles run and what you should be doing at that time to maximize your shopping experience and get the most bang (and bang back) for your bucks!

The kids are heading back to school.  New Fall styles are in stock and shipping out.  Ridiculous prices on Spring/Summer items.  And Pumpkin Spice Lattes!!!

Here is whats going now now and what to expect over the next couple of months!

Spring VS Fall

New Fall 2013 items have been in pre-order stage for a month or two now.  Most are arriving now and are in-stock and ready to ship at the online boutiques.  Most boutique lines have sales restrictions in place and we won’t be seeing discounts on these items for many weeks.  I always buy the things that I “love” now and want Abby to wear right away and then go back once sales start and buy coordinating pieces and the things that are on my “like this” list.  Most incentives will be free shipping, reward points, etc type promos.  Now, the big retailers such as Hanna, Tea, Boden, etc roll out Fall sales earlier and most have promos going on all of the time.  I always post those when they are live.

All of the boutique Spring lines are now on sale and most are in the 50% off range.  Look for discounts such as ‘extra 20% off sale’ etc to really maximize these discounts!  This is when you should 100% be stocking up for next Spring/Summer.  Trust me.  Come January which is only really 4 months away we will be looking at new Spring 2014 pre-orders and you will wish that you had some goodies stashed away from these sales.  Also, look for Spring items that you can use now! Leggings, layering shirts, jumpers are all great for the Fall transition!

As we get out new Fall items in you can also see some of the new Fall stuff  on www.AbbyTrends.com and www.JakeTrends.com in ‘real life’.

Also, if you are looking for anything specific or have sizing questions please  feel free to ask me on the NewDayNewDeals Facebook page and I can help you find them!

Resale

What should you be doing now? Spring resale is pretty dead.  I would box up those tank tops and sandals and wait to sell them in February to maximize your return. But we are in the heat of Fall resale!  You 100% need to be getting your items from last Fall on ebay, Facebook or wherever you like to sell.  Also, go through your ‘stash’ from last Winter’s sales.  See what fits and what doesn’t.  Most likely if it doesn’t work anymore or you had a change in taste you can get back at least what you paid on it in the resale market right now.  So please, if you have an hour to kill go dig in their closest and make yourself a big old pile of stuff to sell!

State of the Shopping Address {Vol 8}: It’s Summertime!!!

Schools out for SUMMER!  Spring sale season is in full swing, the sun is shining and did someone say FALL?

So, here is whats going now now and what to expect over the next couple of months!

Sales

Pretty much all of the new Spring lines are now on sale.  Note that many of these have brand restrictions on discounting and and sale prices now are based on a set schedule.  Most brands allow for larger discounts after July 4th.  Right now most items are available at 20%-30% off retail prices.  Once we hit mid-July and later these brands will be dropped down to the 40%-50% off range and so on.  Buy things that you want for this summer now but I would hold off on “stocking up” for next summer until we get into the big big end of season sales.

Feel free to check out the Spring 2013-> My Favorites Pin Board for things to put on your “sale watch list”.

You can also see some of the new Spring stuff  on www.AbbyTrends.com and www.JakeTrends.com in ‘real life’.

If you are looking for anything specific or have sizing questions please  feel free to ask me on the NewDayNewDeals Facebook page and I can help you find them!

Fall

Ready or not Fall pre-orders are already starting.  I am holding off a bit and will start running Fall features in a few weeks.  Look for those along with my Seasonal Favorites Pinboard soon! (click here to learn more about what it means to pre-order.)

Resale

What should you be doing now? Spring resale is pretty much dead but come August people will be thinking back-to-school and Fall items will start selling well.  So, right now, by all means sell outgrown stuff if you need to and your child can’t wear it but don’t try to sell Spring items to make good money at this point since most people can just buy it all on sale anyway.  You can read my Guide To Selling Your Boutique Clothes by clicking here.

Real Life

It’s SUMMER!  I am going to be posting a lot less and enjoying some sun!  Of course I will share the great deals but please everyone back away from the computer a bit! Go have some fun! Like your kids need more clothes anyway! :)

So, that is where we are right now!  If you have any questions at all please comment below, email me or ask on the NDND facebook page and I would be happy to help!

State of the Shopping Address {Vol 7 } Officially Spring!

It’s officially SPRING!  Whether it actually feels like it or not the boutiques are in full on Spring mode!  And we are itching to start wearing these new Spring styles! So, here is whats going now now and what to expect over the next couple of months!

Sales

Pretty much all of the new Spring lines (that have been on pre-order for the past couple months) are in stock and ready to ship!  Note that many of these have brand restrictions on discounting and for the most part we won’t be seeing sales on the popular brands until closer to or on Memorial Day.  Some boutiques still have some Fall items left over at below wholesale pricing.  I always stock up on a few things for next Fall because believe it or not those pre-orders start in just a few months!

Bigger brands such as Tea Collection, Hanna Andersson, Mini Boden, etc will start having sales and some already are.  I will make sure to keep you guys up to date on these!

In the meantime I will probably be looking for more deals on the flash sites, Amazon, etc on things that we need for this Spring and Summer!  Post might be more few and far between and deals not all crazy good but will do my best to help you get the best deals on the high quality items that we actually need!  I have a strict no crap policy here and always make sure that I am posting things that I actually buy and that are a great value!

If you are looking for anything specific or have sizing questions please  feel free to ask me on theNewDayNewDeals Facebook page and I can help you find them!

Spring

Now is a great time to check out my my Spring 2013 features.   And I have many more to get added!   I love these because they really serve two great purposes.  First, they get us excited about Spring and we get to see the new lines and second they help us keep Spring shopping organized.  In terms of shopping, I pre-order and pay full price for the things that I love and that I know won’t go on sale for a while (click here to learn more about what it means to pre-order.)  These features also allow us to keep all things Spring in one place for you to reference before, after and during the season.  I also keep the Spring 2013-> My Favorites Pin Board.  I suggest watching these features and the pinboards and re-pinning or making a mental note about the things that you love.  That way you can determine what you have to have and what you want to wait for sales on.  Then when we get into the crazy sale season come June/July/August you will have an idea of what you want to buy ahead of time!

As we get Spring stuff in you will see it on www.AbbyTrends.com and www.JakeTrends.com in ‘real life’.

Resale

What should you be doing now?  There is still time to sell your outgrown items or things that you won’t need.  Ebay sales peak now and really values decline once new Spring styles start going on sale.    At this point I wouldn’t really bother selling too much of your Fall/Winter stuff as its already so cheap at shops right now.  You are best hanging onto it until July/August and getting a lot more for it.  You can read my Guide To Selling Your Boutique Clothes by clicking here.

So, that is where we are right now!  If you have any questions at all please comment below, email me or ask on the NDND facebook page and I would be happy to help!

**Also, as you get in your Spring items please let us all know what you LOVE and don’t love.  How brands are running, cute combos that you came across, etc.  The NDND Facebook page is a great place for that!

State of the Shopping Address {Vol 6 } The New Year

So, it it time for another State of the Shopping address here at NewDayNewDeals.com.  I like to write these up whenever their is a shift in the seasons/shopping.   I hope that these help keep you guys up to date on how boutique shopping cycles run and what you should be doing at that time to maximize your shopping experience and get the most bang (and bang back) for your bucks!

Well, the holidays are officially over and I hope that you enjoyed all of the holiday deals that I posted in November and December!  I know we had a great Christmas and scored some great deals!  Things are getting back to normal and the kids are heading back to school.  So, here is whats going now now and what to expect over the next couple of months!

Sales

Now that we are deep into winter pretty much everything that we loved from Fall is on sale at basically 1/2 off retail which is essentially wholesale pricing.  With the exception of a few deeper sales things really aren’t going to get too much lower and stock will diminish quick at sites so if you are wanting to buy Fall items do so now!    When we get to seeing the below wholesale super-sales things are often picked over and it gets hard to piece outfits together in your size and such.     I am buying a few random things for this year especially things like leggings that can help us transition into Spring.   I am also buying ahead for next Fall.  I don’t buy too much ahead because my interests and their growth change so quickly but I get several outfits to have on hand.  If you are still looking for items or have sizing questions please  feel free to ask me on the NewDayNewDeals Facebook page and I can help you find them!  I will still be posting when I see great deals on brands we love and exceptional deals at boutiques so I won’t leave you high and dry but just know that it is ALL on sale now.

Spring

I have started running my Spring 2013 features.   You may be seeing just as many of them as you do  sale posts over the next month or two.  Pay attention to these as they really serve a couple purposes.  First, they get us excited about Spring and we get to see the new lines and second they help us keep Spring shopping organized.  In terms of shopping, I preorder the things that I love and that I know won’t go on sale for a while (click here to learn more about what it means to pre-order.)  These features also allow us to keep all things Spring in one place for you to reference before, after and during the season. Also, pay attention to the styles and colors.  Think if you have something in your child’s closet that will coordinate with that new Spring item.  It helps keep outfit-making easy. Also, as we get Spring stuff in you will see it on www.AbbyTrends.com and www.JakeTrends.com in ‘real life’.

Resale

What should you be doing now?  You need to start getting your past season stuff ready to sell.  In the next couple weeks (especially when tax refunds poor in) people will be hitting up ebay and resale boards looking for Spring styles for their child. Go through closets, dressers and storage bins now.  Pull out what you bought ahead on sale last year.  And get out that stuff that doesn’t fit from last Spring (or that won’t by the time it is warm enough to wear that item) and get it on Ebay or Facebook resale pages or to the Consignment shop or whatever floats you boat.  I personally just prefer Ebay.  It lets the market work and while it is a bit of a pain to list and there is a 9% fee + 3% paypal fee it seems to be the best buying pool on boutique clothes.  Make sure they aren’t wrinkled and do nice detailed listings and get them up in the next month or two.   At this point I wouldn’t really bother selling too much of your Fall/Winter stuff as its already so cheap at shops right now.  You are best hanging onto it until July and getting a lot more for it.  You can read my Guide To Selling Your Boutique Clothes by clicking here.

So, that is where we are right now!  If you have any questions at all please comment below, email me or ask on the NDND facebook page and I would be happy to help!

State of the Shopping Address {Vol 5} The Holiday Season

So, it it time for another State of the Shopping address here at NewDayNewDeals.com.  I like to write these up whenever their is a shift in the seasons/shopping.   I hope that these help keep you guys up to date on how boutique shopping cycles run and what you should be doing at that time to maximize your shopping experience and get the most bang (and bang back) for your bucks!

Can you believe that Thanksgiving is next week?  This Fall has flown by!  We have been at a bit of a shopping stand still in regards to Fall clothing.  We are just now starting to see the first Fall markdowns and most are around 20% off.  We are finally started to cool down here in the Midwest and its now inappropriate weather for most of our Fall clothes.  Take a minute and inventory what you have.   This is important in determining what to buy.

So here is how the next couple months will go down.    Two major holidays.  With Thanksgiving next week the first MAJOR Fall markdowns and sales will be underway.  Expect sales in the 25% – 35% off range from boutiques and a little more from the major retailers like Gap, Boden, Hanna.  Boutiques will discount what they can but many have strict rules set by designers that don’t allow for discounts of specific lines during the regular season.  This includes brands like Persnickety, Swanky Baby, Livie and Luca and others.  Only time will tell when each of these will be discounted.  But, come post-Christmas the HUGE sales start with prices in the 50% off range.  So, my advice, buy what you need in December or that you think will sell out right when the Thanksgiving sales start.  If you don’t need it in December or the sell-out risk is low then wait until after Christmas!

Now, that last paragraph applied to our beloved boutique clothes.  I am going to shake things up a bit in November / December and post a few more toy and gift deals.  I know that this is what you are shopping for now and I want to make sure that I am posting things that benefit you!  Come the New Year it will be back to our clothes and some hard core post season sales and new Spring releases.

What should you be doing now?  You need to make sure that you are pretty much done  SELLING your used Fall clothes.  Once the major sales start then no on will want to buy your used stuff when they can get new stuff for cheap.  Make sure that you set aside outgrown Spring items and be ready to list those come February for maximum return.

Also, make sure that you know what you want!  As these sales start is it really really easy to overbuy and not have a clear vision.  Make sure that you are taking advantage of the Fall 2012 features that I ran a few months ago.  Get a good idea about what you love now and what you want to wait for.    These features allowed us to keep all things Fall in one place for you to reference before, after and during the season.  I also keep the Fall 2012-> My Favorites Pin Board.  I suggest watching these features and the pinboards and re-pinning or making a mental note about the things that you love or have on your ‘list’ for this Fall/Winter.    Also, as we get Fall stuff in you will see it on www.AbbyTrends.com and www.JakeTrends.com in ‘real life’.    I have several Fall pieces from numerous designers already being featured on there.  And remember that I always love answering your sizing or styling questions and always respond to comments left on those blog posts.

So, that is where we are right now!  If you have any questions at all please comment below, email me or ask on the NDND facebook page and I would be happy to help!

State of the Shopping Address {Vol 4} Welcome Fall!

So, it it time for another State of the Shopping address here on NewDayNewDeals.com.  I like to write these up whenever their is a shift in the seasons/shopping.   I hope that these help keep you guys up to date on how boutique shopping cycles run and what you should be doing at that time to maximize your shopping experience and get the most bang (and bang back) for your bucks!

We have hit September.  Kids are back to school.  And even though its still 90 degrees where we live we know that Fall is right around the corner.  We are pretty much in the same place that we were last March.  And the sales are going to be a bit sparse and not as ‘jaw-dropping’ for a little while.  Pre-orders have been up for a couple months now and our favorite retailers are getting shipments in daily.  Many of you are getting your pre-orders now and planning your Fall wardrobes.  With the exception of a few random sales we have basically seen the last of Spring 2012 and hopefully you have stashed away some goodies for next year!

So here is how the next couple months will go down.   Some major retailers like Gap, Boden, Hannah, etc will have the usual 10%, 15%, 20% off for the next month or two.   Columbus Day will bring more sales from the big retailers.  Don’t expect a lot of sales on new Fall arrivals right away from the online boutiques.  Many have strict rules set by designers that don’t allow for discounts of specific lines during the regular season.  This includes brands like Persnickety, Swanky Baby, Livie and Luca and others.  We can expect to see these on sale closer to Thanksgiving this year.  I always buy a couple outfits that I love right away because they aren’t going on sale anyway so I might as well enjoy them this Fall.  Then when the sales start rolling in I will build upon the pieces that I already have for the rest of Winter.

One thing that you should be taking advantage of now are the Fall 2012 features that I have been running.  Get a good idea about what you love now and what you want to wait for.    These features also allow us to keep all things Fall in one place for you to reference before, after and during the season.  I also keep the Fall 2012-> My Favorites Pin Board.  I suggest watching these features and the pinboards and re-pinning or making a mental note about the things that you love or have on your ‘list’ for this Fall/Winter.   Then when we get into the crazy sale season come November/December/January you will have an idea of what you want to buy ahead of time!  Also, as we get Fall stuff in you will see it on www.AbbyTrends.com and www.JakeTrends.com in ‘real life’.  I always love answering your sizing or styling questions and always respond to comments left on those blog posts.

What should you be doing now?  You need to make sure that you are SELLING!  I plan on running a feature in the next couple days about different routes to take in regards to selling based on how much time you want to put into it.  So keep an eye out for that!  It will be nice and detailed for you and I will be welcoming you guys to post links to your Ebay or For Sale albums on that post for everyone to ‘shop’ and look at.   But basically right now is PRIME selling time for your Fall 2011 items or things that you have stashed away but won’t be using for this Fall.

Also, make sure to go through your stuff that you have stashed away for this year.  Pull it all out.  See what might not fit and what things coordinate with what.  If you have 4 cute tops that need brown pants then go get your kid some brown pants.  If you bought something last year and now you aren’t that into it then don’t be afraid to sell it.  Chances are that you got it for 50% off or more last year and can easily get that back via resale and buy something that you like.  Same goes for those things that you like but just don’t have anything to go with.  Try on all shoes from last year and ones that you have stashed away too.  Make sure they match your child’s Fall wardrobe.  Going through our sale stash from last year always gets me excited for the new season!

So, that is where we are right now!  If you have any questions at all please comment below, email me or ask on the NDND facebook page and I would be happy to help!

State of The Shopping Address {Vol 3}: Dog Days of Summer

So, these State of the Shopping addresses are going to be making a regular appearance on NewDayNewDeals.com and look for them whenever their is a shift in the seasons/shopping.  I like to keep you guys up to date on how boutique shopping cycles run and what you should be doing at that time to maximize your shopping experience and get the most bang (and bang back) for your bucks!

So, here we are in the Dog Days of Summer.  Fall 2012 features have been running strong and will continue to for another 1-2 months as more Fall lines come out.   You may be seeing just as many of them as you do  sale posts.  These serve a couple purposes.  First, they get us excited about Fall and we get to see the new lines and second they help us keep Fall organized.  In terms of shopping, I preorder the things that I love and that I know won’t go on sale for a while (click here to learn more about what it means to pre-order.)  These features also allow us to keep all things Fall in one place for you to reference before, after and during the season.  I also keep the Fall 2012-> My Favorites Pin Board.  I suggest watching these features and the pinboards and re-pinning or making a mental note about the things that you love.  That way you can determine what you have to have and what you want to wait for sales on.  Then when we get into the crazy sale season come November/December/January you will have an idea of what you want to buy ahead of time!  Also, as we get Fall stuff in you will see it on www.AbbyTrends.com and www.JakeTrends.com in ‘real life’.

So, in regards to sales right now.  We just passed the 4th of July and many of us were able to get things we loved at 1/2 off retail which is basically wholesale pricing.  With the exception of a few deeper sales things really aren’t going to get too much lower and stock will diminish quick at sites so if you are wanting to buy Spring/Summer stuff I would do it now.  When we get to seeing the below wholesale super-sales things are often picked over and it gets hard to piece outfits together in your size and such.     I am buying a few random things for this year and the Fall Transition (ex. the Spring Persnickety bell pants to go with my tops as we head into Fall).  I am also buying ahead for next Summer.  I don’t buy too much ahead because my interests and their growth change so quickly but I get several outfits to have on hand.  You can also find some nice deals on Fall 2011 styles at some sites so make sure to look through past seasons when browsing.

What should you be doing now?  You need to start SELLING!  Get out that stuff that doesn’t fit from last Fall (or that won’t by the time fall actually hits this year) and get it on Ebay or Facebook sales or to the Consignment shop or whatever floats you boat.  I personally just prefer Ebay.  It lets the market work and while it is a bit of a pain to list and there is a 9% fee + 3% paypal fee it seems to be the best buying pool on boutique clothes.  Make sure they aren’t wrinkled and do nice detailed listings and get them up soon.  July and early August are HOT on ebay for Back to School shopping!  At this point I wouldn’t try to really sell too much of your Spring/Summer stuff as its already so cheap at shops right now.  You are best hanging onto it until February and getting a lot more for it.  Need packing supplies? Click here to see what I use.

So, that is where we are right now!  If you have any questions at all please comment below, email me or ask on the NDND facebook page and I would be happy to help!

State of the Shopping Address {Vol II}: The End of Spring

So, about 6 weeks ago I did a short State of the Sales address.  I recommend clicking here to read it if you have not yet.  Well, we are about to hit Memorial Day and with that comes some major shopping action.  So, fasten your seatbelts and lets make sure that are prepared for Spring/Summer sales and the launches of Fall 2012!

Yep, I said Fall 2012!  Sites will start releasing Fall previews in June and boutiques will start taking preorders.  Some items ship as early as July but most will hit boutiques come  August.  I plan on running a Fall 2012 segment just as I did with Spring 2012!  Did you guys like that?  Feel free to comment below.  As always, if there is an outfit that you LOVE or that has a lot of buzz around it then I would preorder.  I do it with 2-4 outfits per year that I know won’t be allowed to go on sale for some time.  Like Persnickety, Misha Lulu, Livie and Lucas, etc.  So, that is Fall and we will watch it unfold in the coming months!

So, Spring/Summer and Sales.  I see Memorial Day sales already starting to pop up.  Things are going to heat up and you will likely feel like your head is spinning and your wallet is on FIRE with the next few months of sales.  Make SURE that you know what you want!  You don’t want to go crazy BUT you also want to take advantage of the sales.  So here is what you need to be doing right now!  As, I stated in the previous post you want took through my Spring 2012 guides or my Spring 2012 Pinterest board.  Take a long look through www.AbbyTrends.com and www.JakeTrends.com and see what Spring styles that we have that you love.   Look through boutique’s websites.  Who has your sizes in something that you have been wanting?  Make sure to get on their mailing list so that you are first to know about a sale!  Ask questions about how your favorites are running and all that jazz.  I really love answering questions.  That is why I do this!  Be ready so that when the sales start you know exactly what you have your eyes on!  This will prevent you from both overbuying and scrambling when there is a good sale.

And on a resale note it is about that time where resale halts a bit.  People aren’t buying a lot of Spring/Summer now and if they do they will be hitting up sales.  From this point on most of your Spring/Summer resale should wait until next Feb/March/April.  That is when people will be paying the big bucks online.  And believe it or not, the Fall resale season will begin in July/Aug/Sept when people are seeing the new Fall lines and itching for Fall styles.  So, get your closets cleaned out and Fall stuff pulled and be ready to sell in a bit.

So, that is that.  Feel free to comment below or come back to this Facebook post to chat!!!

State of the Shopping Address {Vol 1}: Hello Spring!

Ok… so its April 2nd and we have been talking up Spring for a bit now.  Heck.. its been almost 90 degrees the last 2 days in Kansas City!  We have been at a bit of a shopping standstill.  Many of us have already pre-ordered and bought our ‘must haves’ for this season but are still itching for more!

So, here is a little status update on what to expect as the rest of Spring unfolds.

With Easter coming up we will likely see some Easter sales pop up.  Most are 20% off or $20 off $100+ or free shipping type offers.  If you want something and think it may be hard to find later then grab it.  The rest of April that discount will be pretty standard and into the beginning of May.  I would expect a random Earth Day or Cinco De Mayo sale to pop up at maybe 30% off or so but the party gets started around Memorial Day.  That is when the big sales start up and you want to buy those things that you kind of want but are waiting to go on sale.  June and July will continue with some good sales but come mid July/August it will be all about Fall.  Spring & Summer styles will be discounted at 40% – 60% off at this time and I would grab stuff to get you through October and/or for next Spring.  Once the Fall lines start hitting retailers in August/September then you will see super deal 55% – 75% off sales that we love to raid.

Note that select higher end labels like Persnickety, Misha Lulu, Swanky Baby Vintage, etc do NOT allow retailers to discount until they give the go ahead later in the season.  So, I always buy that stuff first.  That is why it is always excluded from promo codes and special offers!

So, this April look through my Spring 2012 guides or my Spring 2012 Pinterest board.  Follow www.AbbyTrends.com and www.JakeTrends.com and see what Spring styles that we have.  Ask questions about how your favorites are running and all that jazz.  I really love answering questions.  That is why I do this!  Be ready so that when the sales start you know exactly what you have your eyes on!  This will prevent you from both overbuying and scrambling when there is a good sale.

And as always — Happy Shopping!
